Admission & High School Equivalence Requirements

Your high school graduation type, university exam results, and language certificate are decisive for studying in Germany.

Science and Anadolu High Schools

Direct Application

Candidates who graduated from Science or Anadolu High Schools have the fastest and most direct application profile. To study directly in Germany, it is sufficient to meet the following requirement:

  • University Exam Requirement: Having won any 4-year (bachelor's) formal department in the university entrance exam in your home country. It does not matter if the department you are placed in is a state or private university.
  • Department Equivalence: The department you will study in Germany must be equivalent to the department you won or to the score type (Numerical, Equal Weight, Verbal) that includes that department.

Vocational & Open High Schools

Studienkolleg or Prep

Students graduating from vocational, Imam Hatip or open high schools cannot start undergraduate education directly, even if they won a 4-year department in the university entrance exam. There are 2 alternative methods to obtain admission:

  • Studienkolleg (1 Year Prep): After receiving admission to the university, attending a preparatory school (Studienkolleg) in Germany for 1 year and taking the graduation exam (Feststellungsprüfung - FSP).
  • Studying 1 Year Locally: Students who successfully complete the first year of the 4-year undergraduate program they won in their home country without failing any courses can apply directly to undergraduate education in Germany.

⚠️ Consulate Approved Official Language Certificates

In order for the German A2 language certificate to be valid when applying for a conditional admission visa, it must be obtained from official institutions recognized by the consulate: Goethe-Institut, ÖSD or Telc. Other private course certificates are not accepted during the visa stage.

Conditional Admission Visa & Universities

Legal rights of studying with conditional admission in Germany and prestigious universities to apply.

§16b / §36f Visa and Legal Rights

Your visa application with your conditional admission letter and A2 certificate is not a simple language school visa, but a conditional admission student visa (§16b or §36f AufenthG). The major advantages this visa provides are:

  • Legal Work Permit: The right to work legally for up to 20 hours per week (140 full days / 280 half days per year), including the language preparation period.
  • Easy Residence Extension: Since you have an official link with the university after reaching Germany, your residence permit is extended without problems.
  • Schengen Zone: Visa-free travel in all Schengen countries.

Step-by-Step German Process Roadmap

Our chronological guide from the start of the contract to your first step on the campus in Germany.

🔄 Simultaneous Phase

Phase 1: Reaching German A2 Level

This phase is a simultaneous preparation that needs to be handled in the background while official document processes start.

📅 Start: Preparation of documents (Phase 2)

🏁 End: Language course registration and AT/11 certificate (Phase 5)

* You must have received your official A2 certificate (Goethe, ÖSD or Telc) before entering the visa interview.

Phase 2: Preparation of Application Documents (Duration: 2 Weeks)

Preparation of Application Documents

High school diploma, transcripts, and exam results/placement certificates are obtained. German sworn translation, notary approval, and apostille processes are applied to these documents. Your CV and motivation letter are also prepared.

Phase 3: Receiving Conditional Admission via Uni-Assist (Duration: 1 Month)

Receiving Conditional Admission via Uni-Assist

Conditional admission applications are made through the Uni-Assist portal or directly to universities with the prepared documents. Document evaluation and the arrival of your pre-acceptance letter from the university are completed in this process.

Phase 4: Blocked Account or Guarantor (Duration: 2 Weeks)

Blocked Account or Guarantor

To obtain a German visa, proof of financial subsistence is prepared. A blocked account is opened in an authorized institution in Germany (Expatrio, Fintiba etc.) and €12.300 is deposited, or a consulate-approved Guarantor letter (Verpflichtungserklärung) is obtained from a relative residing in Germany with sufficient income.

Phase 5: Language Course Registration & AT/11 (Duration: 2 Weeks)

Language Course Registration & AT/11 Provision

Registration is made for the preparatory language school of the university you received conditional acceptance or a private German language course. The course fee is paid, and the official registration/payment certificate is received. At the same time, the SGK AT/11 health document is obtained to be exempt from health insurance costs.

Phase 6: Visa Application & Integration (Duration: 1 - 2 Months)

Visa Application & German Integration

National visa (§36f) application is made with A2 certificate, conditional acceptance letter, blocked account confirmation, language school registration certificate, and AT/11. Following visa approval, travel to Germany, residence permit acquisition, language level completion to C1, and final university registration are executed.

⚠️ Programs Without Conditional Admission

Some departments in Germany do not accept conditional admission due to special exams, portfolios, or specific language requirements.

Candidates wishing to study in the following departments must submit their German C1 level language certificates (TestDaF, DSH etc.) directly during the application. Conditional admission is not granted during the language preparation phase for these programs:

  • Medicine & Health Sciences: All departments directly related to human health, such as Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine.
  • Law (Rechtswissenschaften): Due to the complexity and terminology of the German legal system, conditional admission is not applied.
  • Teaching (Lehramt): Direct submission of language proficiency is requested to teach in public schools in Germany.
  • Fine Arts & Design: Since portfolio submission and special talent exams (Eignungsprüfung) are mandatory at entry, language waiver is not given.
  • History, Archaeology & Philosophy: In addition to German, proficiency in at least 2-3 ancient languages like Latin or Ancient Greek may be required in these departments.
